Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: What is the actual process you use to make each lighthouse?
A:
I start with research into each actual lighthouse so that I can scale the piece as best possible. Then after the design I start working with the wood that is needed for the lighthouse itself by ‘turning’ it just right on my personal wood lathe. Then comes individual carving needed for details and electronics required to operate the light beacon. The unit then is mounted to a specially selected piece of basalt or granite, and then hand-painted and finished, ready for shipment.

Q: How do you ship my lighthouse to me and how much will it cost?
A:
Each lighthouse is specially packed for shipment using UPS or other comparable carrier. The order is insured and registered for safe and accurate delivery.  Each model requires unique packing techniques and some models may cost more for handling/shipping than others.  I will give you a shipping/handling quote when you choose the model you want.

Q: What size are the lighthouses?
A: Each lighthouse is between 9 inches and 20 inches in height.  See the example photo below as an example.

Q: How long does each order take?
A:
A basic non-functioning model may only take a few days or so, while a more elaborate or custom designed one may take more than a week or two. My backlog of orders may also influence the overall completion time. When you place your order I should be able to give you a fairly accurate time estimate.

Q: How do the ‘functional’ lighthouses work?
A:
They each have a special embedded circuitry which should last for many years (I haven’t had one wear out yet). The light runs off of a standard replaceable battery (usually 9volt) which is hidden in the structure and easily accessed. There is also a small hidden switch that you use to turn it on or off.

Q: Are there any moving parts?
A:
No, everything is solid state. The LED used for the beacon appears to rotate just like a real lighthouse. It does this by slowly illuminating from the ‘dark’ state to the fully ‘bright’ state and then back again to ‘dark’. The illusion from any angle is that the light is actually rotating at about one full turn per every few seconds. This action will continue as long as the switch is on and the battery is adequate.

Q: What are my payment options?
A:
You may use money orders, cashiers checks, or pay through PayPal.

Q: Are there wires to worry about?
A:
No, there are no plug-ins or wires visible.  There is no worry of electrical hazard or shock.

Q: Can I place these lighthouses outdoors?
A:
No, they are not meant to be exposed to the elements.  They are art pieces for display indoors.

Q: What if I have other questions?
A:
Please send me your questions in an email to foggyshoals@comcast.net and I will answer them as soon as possible.
